B.Sc. Perfusion Technology course is a bachelor level degree program that has the same duration as that of most of the B.Sc. degree programs. This course, in general, is best for those candidates who are keen to work close to the healthcare sector. As the course name itself suggests, the B.Sc. perfusion technology course deals with perfusion technology.
This degree program is designed in such a way that it includes a unique blend of practical training and classroom lectures to familiarize perfusion technology. Most commonly, this course ends with an internship stint. So, what exactly is perfusion technology, what is its scope, how to become a perfusionist? Everything you need to know about these courses is compiled below.
What is Perfusion Technology?
Perfusion is a technical term and it refers to the flow of blood and other fluids in the human body through the circulatory or lymphatic system. It is one of the most important processes that take place in the human body. Without a proper circulation of blood and other fluids, the human body cannot function.
When it comes to blood circulation, if the blood carrying oxygen from the lungs does not perform the function properly, then, it could reduce affect the cells and tissues. Over time, it could result in serious health issues.
So, what if a person’s lung or heart does not function properly? The answer is simple, if the blood circulation is not up to the standard, it could serious health issues. This is where perfusion technology comes into play. Once an issue is found out with blood circulation, to maintain perfect perfusion, a heart-lung machine is used. Most commonly, a heart-lung machine is used while a person is undergoing cardiac or any other type of major surgery.
For every major surgery, there will always be a team of skilled doctors, assistants, nurses, technicians, anaesthesiologists, and perfusionists. The main aim of the perfusionist is to monitor, configure, and operate the heart-lung machine, in order, to maintain appropriate blood circulation.
In short, a perfusionist is a part of the skilled medical team that carries out major surgeries especially cardiac. He/she has to be always ready to configure and operate the heart-lung machine to maintain good blood circulation.
When it comes to the perfusion technology course, the major areas the course focuses on are anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, perfusion technology medicine, perfusion technology equipment, and clinical, applied, and advanced perfusion technology.
Now, you have a general insight into what perfusion technology is and why it is important. Let’s now look more into the course.
Perfusion Technology: Type of course
Perfusion Technology is a bachelor’s degree program that is designed to train and offer knowledge to the student about perfusion technology.
Perfusion Technology: Duration
Perfusion technology course commonly has a course duration of 3-years. However, after the 3-year course, the candidate should do an internship in the field for at least 6-months and a maximum of 12-months.
The 3-year academic duration is split into two semesters or six semesters, each of the semesters would end with an evaluation exam.
Perfusion Technology: Eligibility Criteria
While there are several colleges, institutions, and universities offering perfusion technology course, the eligibility criteria for this course is same for all.
- The candidate should have completed 12th
- The candidate should have passed 12th with at least 50% marks.
- The candidate should be from a PCB stream.
- The candidate should be above 17-years of age.
Apart from these basic eligibility criteria, the candidate needs to satisfy the below-mentioned criteria.
- He/she should appear for the national or university level entrance examination or NEET.
- He/she should score good marks and rank to get allotment in a college or university
Some colleges and universities offer direct admission too, however, the majority of the colleges follow the above-listed eligibility criterion.

Perfusion Technology Course Fee
The basic fee structure of the B.Sc. perfusion technology course could depend on the college or university enrolled. However, as far as we know, on average, the course fee could range from INR 60000 to 2 lakh per annum. Some reputed colleges have a course fee more than this.
Perfusion Technology: Admission procedure
Unlike other, medical and paramedical courses, B.Sc. perfusion technology admission could be done through both online and offline methods. The candidates are required to visit the website and fill in the form and submit it before the deadline. Just after the 12th exams, the admission forms would be available on the college or university’s official website.
Even if you submit the form online, call the university and college and as them if a personal meeting needs to be scheduled or not.
Once the application is accepted, the college or university might conduct an entrance test, if it is an entrance test, then admission would be based on the marks you score. After the publishing of the entrance test score, if the candidate is qualified, he/she would be called for a counseling session, based on the outcome of this counseling session, admission would be granted.
On the other hand, if it is direct admission, the candidate needs to submit the 12th mark list, and based on the cut-off mark set by the university or college, admission would be given. Some of the reputed private colleges also conduct counseling sessions and admission would be granted based on the discussion in the counseling session.
Perfusion Technology: Job opportunities
B.Sc. Perfusion technology graduates are not too many in India, therefore, there are job opportunities always open and available in both the private and public sectors. In recent years, the demand and scope of perfusion technology have increased and still the number of graduates coming out each year has not.
